Approval of eSurfboards on Waterways
Both the Fliteboard and the Awake eFoil foil are classified as small vessels by definition and not as personal watercraft (PWC). Therefore, they are allowed to operate freely on all waterways in Germany, even outside designated jet ski zones.
Awake, on the other hand, is classified as a personal watercraft/jet ski. This means it can be freely used within designated jet ski zones and may also be operated outside these zones for cruising trips (point-to-point travel from A to B).
Registration Requirement on Federal Waterways
On federal waterways (rivers), there is a registration requirement. You can obtain an official registration certificate for small vessels from the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV). Check to see which WSV office is responsible for your area.
Required Documents for Registration
The following documents must be submitted to the WSV by mail or fax:
1. Application for the issuance of an official registration number
(Find templates here for all types of Fliteboards, Audi e-tron foils, and Radinn boards. You only need to fill in your personal information, the original serial number, and the motor number.)
2. Copy of your ID card
3. Purchase agreement
(For a smooth process, experience shows it is helpful if the invoice is in German and meets specific requirements. At eFoil Riders, we ensure these aspects are already taken care of when issuing an invoice for your purchase.)
